Get Involved

How You Can Help

Missions

Being faithful to the Great Commission of Jesus to make and multiply disciples in every place and people group locally to internationally cost in people, material, and financial resources. First, give yourself for God's use, and then give of your material and financial blessings to spread the gospel of Jesus and increase His kingdom.

Nothing substantial, eternal and life-changing occurs without prayer. Pray intentionally, intensely and consistently for how God would have you to be involved in missions and for the multiplied mission efforts of those who serve.

LOCAL, STATE, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS

Cornerstone is a Southern Baptist church affiliated at the local level with the Washington County Baptist Association, at the state level with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, and at the national and international levels with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Washington County Baptist Association consist of eighteen Southern Baptist Churches working in cooperation and with other Bible-believing, Bible-teaching, like-minded churches. Our purpose is the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) given by Jesus Christ, which means we work and serve to get the gospel of Jesus Christ to every resident, to disciple God's people and to extend the Kingdom of God locally. Accomplishing this great purpose provides opportunities to help people meet their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, prepare and secure employment and manage the difficult and tragic circumstances of life.

In addition, Cornerstone's active Missions Team leads our church's mission efforts locally, nationally and internationally. Seek the Lord for how He would have you participate in missions. Every Christian can pray. Since each gift is vital, nothing is too small or too large. Not every person can be involved in missions on the local, state, national and international levels; however, all of us can be missionaries in our own neighborhoods and where God takes us.

As God leads you in His will, be an instrument of His grace and a minister of reconciliation. Be one of thousands who, as Isaiah, have heard God ask, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" and have answered, "Here am I. Send me" (Is. 6:8-9).

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

Strategic SBC Missions

The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest mission sending denomination of churches on planet earth maintaining almost 5,000 full-time missionaries on the field of North America and Canada and almost 5,000 full-time missionaries on foreign mission fields. Three times each year, SBC churches receive offerings to keep missionaries on their respective fields all over the globe. One of these three offerings is aimed at mission efforts all over the state of Mississippi.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

Cornerstone receives this offering during the months of March and April. 100 percent of the offering goes directly to keep full-time missionaries on the field of North America and Canada.

Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering

Cornerstone receives this offering during the months of August and September. 100 percent of the offering goes to fund a variety of mission endeavors across the state of Mississippi.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

Cornerstone receives this offering during the months of November, December and January. 100 percent of the offering goes directly to keep full-time missionaries on foreign mission fields all over the world.

Hilltop Baptist Church

Cornerstone nurtures a friendship with Hilltop Baptist in Lower Brule, South Dakota, to help this church located on a Sioux Indian Reservation maintain a church and ministry presence. In addition to sending regular monetary gifts, we have conducted mission trips for construction projects, Vacation Bible Schools, revivals and church leadership training.

In addition to funding SBC mission efforts, Cornerstone helps fund other mission endeavors:

Operation Christmas Child

Each year during the Christmas season, Cornerstone members participate with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's offering by filling Christmas shoe boxes with gifts for boys and girls in foreign countries all over the world. We assemble these boxes during the period of January through April. Shoe boxes and brochures are available in the church office.

Sioux Indian Children

Each year during the Christmas season, Cornerstone members send Christmas shoe boxes to our partner, Hilltop Baptist Church, in Lower Brule, South Dakota, for distribution to the Indian children in their ministry area of the Sioux Indian Reservation. We assemble these boxes during the period May through August. Shoe boxes and packing information is available in the church office.
